Mode Of Action

Inotropic sympathomimetic
Drug Indication Cardiogenic shock, septic shock, cardiomyopathies, cardiac surgery, infarction.
Precautions Continuous monitoring of ECG and blood pressure, hypovolemia to be corrected first, subaortic stenosis.
Contra-Indications Allergy to dobutamine, idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis (IHSS).
Side Effects Ectopic beats, palpitations, arrhythmias, tachycardia, shortness of breath, hypotension, nausea and headache.
Dosage 2.5-10mcg/kg/minute. Adjusted according to response.
